Addressing Stress

Stress is unavoidable and almost certainly comes from external forces that I can not control, which is why it’s stressful. That is why I get anxious- have feelings of worry, fear, or tension.
Right now my money-making job is very stressful. I have work and that’s a blessing in this uncertain economy, but the hours are long. It’s outdoors so the weather adds a layer of difficulty, people can be challenging.  At the very least I do not always maintain my poise.
It’s necessary for me to practice the daily rituals of gratitude, movement, beauty, and kindness.
It is so easy to fall into the pit of telling myself the story of myself and how tough things are. Poor me.
Well, the poor mes are the opposite of Having a Rich Life. There are acceptance and responsibility in the foundation of a rich life.
Right now, my job is tough, I accept that. At work, I consciously try to make suggestions to improve this situation rather than just complaining.  I acknowledge that my work is more strenuous than it used to be and take care of my health- I move and stretch, I take vitamins and eat well, I rest, and I guard my thoughts.
It’s tough now, it’s going to be tough for a while. I can handle it. I ask for extra time off when I need it. And mostly importantly I don’t get caught up in the story of how tough it is and allow that to be the definition of my day.
I appreciate the owners, I enjoy my co-workers. Most days I enjoy working outside(especially rather than in an office). Keeping these facts in mind smooths the edges off my stress.
Practice is the key. Having a practice of awareness, acknowledgment, and action enables me to have stress and have a rich life.

Things and things

At some time in the middle of last night, the number of items on our porch "waiting to be put away" crossed my invisible, but very real line. Stepping out onto the porch this out this morning to feed the birds, I was driven to put everything in its place and sweep.  All while still in my pajamas.

Having a clean, well-kept home contributes to my feeling of richness in life. More specifically, not having a fresh, well- kept house causes me to feel the opposite- dirty, poor, scruffy.
